Book Launch: Mary Kaulbach’s Normal School Diary 1892 – 1893

We are delighted to have our Mary Kaulbach’s Normal School Diary book launch hosted by the library, the very building where Mary attended the Provincial Normal School. Mary’s diary is in our museum collection, and we are so grateful to two of our Board members, Melanie Ballard and John Grant, who have spent countless hours editing and preparing the manuscript for publication to bring Mary’s diary to life so it can reach a larger audience.

Market Event: A History of Oldfield Consolidated School 1962-2017

John Grant Oldham Consolidated School historyHistorian and author John Grant will attend the 3rd Annual GLO Crafters Sale on Saturday November 3rd from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at Grand Lake Oakfield Community Society, 22 Lakeside Drive, Grand Lake, Halifax County, Nova Scotia.

He will have copies of his book, A History of Oldfield Consolidated School 1962 – 2017, available for purchase.

Free admission. Everyone welcome.

The publication is a 36-page booklet jam-packed with details of the schools that existed before the consolidation and the events leading up to and following the building of the new school in Enfield, Halifax County, Nova Scotia.

The back of the book contains a list of principals and vice principals who taught at the school.

In 1962 the school sections of Goffs (Guysborough Road), Oakfield, Oldham and Enfield Border were dissolved and Oldfield Consolidated School was built to serve the new school district. School consolidation is never easy. This is the story of the process and the life of the new school.

Event: Fall for Books 2017

Author Diane Lynn McGyver will attend the Fall for Books Festival at The Old School House, Musquodoboit Harbour, Halifax County, Nova Scotia on Sunday November 5, 2017.

Mark your calendar. Visitors will be treated to readings by almost a dozen authors, including novelists, poets and nonfiction writers. They will also have the opportunity to speak with authors and purchase books.

This Weekend’s Events – Cancelled

Quarter Castle Publishing will not be at the two scheduled events this weekend: Annual Old Fashioned Seaside Christmas and Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers’ Market. The vehicle in which we travel to events was struck by a deer last Saturday night while we were returning from an art and craft show. Thankfully, no one was injured—except the large buck—but extensive damage was done to the front of the truck.

In Hants Craft Show

The In Hants Craft Show starts today and continues until Sunday evening. This is a large craft show with items by 50 local crafters. The show was featured on Canada Am on Thursday.

Admission is FREE, as is the door prize ticket and the tea/coffee and snacks. They accept cash, debit and credit cards. Tell your friends, stop in for a tea and cookie and do a little shopping.

It was a wonderful autumn day to be at the Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers’ Market. The live music set the scene for family, friends and neighbours to enjoy the atmosphere and many wonders at the market. Artisan Spring Fair

Quarter Castle Publishing will attend the Artisan Spring Fair at Cole Harbour Place on Sunday March 29, 2015. The facility was upgraded in the late 1980s. Before then it was called Scotia Stadium, and many great skaters used the single ice surface, including NHL-star Sydney Crosby.
